Other Info:
The 1988 XR600 Was a fairly big step for the XR's and Incorporated some exciting features. This model also brought back the 18inch rear wheel. It also sported the same head as the NX650. Major Updates:
The Following Info was sent to me in an Email by Peter Frijters: Hi there John K, It's apperently a struggle to get all the information of the XR's for your Honda Model Information / Timeline - page. I ride an old XR600R J model (1988), with re-nicasilled cylinder and 28.800 kms (18,000 miles), and I have also got the original Honda "Owner's Manual". So I give you the Honda and some other information I have collected. I don't know everything is true, but it's better then nothing. My bike is a so called B-version bike. As you know the XR600R is made in 3 versions (for sure the J model is, this is maybe different for newer or older types). The versions are: Non roadlegal, off-road only: the ED-version (no indicator lights, little 25w headlight in the headlight fairing, mounted with elastic straps around the forklegs, rearlight directly on the rearfender, no braking light, no steering lock, 14/48 gearing). As far as I know these bikes are only sold in Australia, New Zealand and in the USA. Roadlegal: the U-version (indicator lights, little 25w headlight in the headlight fairing, mounted with elastic straps around the forklegs, large type of rearlight, braking light included, steering lock, extra latches on the left hand side of frame for an optional, larger, side panel, 14/40 gearing, an extra chain guard bolted onto the swingarm). As far as I know these bikes are only sold in Australia and New Zealand Roadlegal:the B-version (no indicator lights, larger 35w headlight in the headlight fairing, bolted onto the spedometre assembly, large type of rearlight, braking light included, steering lock, 14/48 gearing). As far as I know these bikes are only sold in Europe. My "Owner's Manual" mentions some information about the XR600R-J model from 1988, as dry weight and frame geometry, but I think the dry weight is only for the ED-version. The B & U versions have to be a bit heavier. Anyway, here's the most usefull official Honda data from my Owner's Manual for the XR600R-J-model: DIMENSIONS:
I hope this information can add something to your very nice site! Keep on the good work, cheers, Peter Frijters, the Netherlands
